Swimming Biography

Eoin belongs to Glenalbyn Swimming Club and is a regular participant in local open water swims.

In 2001 he completed Clew Bay (10k/6 miles), Irish Long Distance Championships in Lough Erne (17k/10.5 miles) and Cleggan to Inishboffin (10.5k/6.5 miles).

Swimmer's Report – English Channel

Direction: England to France

Eoin's swim followed a year of intensive training at Phoenix Swimming Club.

On 22nd July 2002 Eoin's swim started at 5am at Shakespeare Beach in Dover. He was very nervous for the first hour but soon settled down into a constant rate of 55 strokes per minute.

Eoin swam strongly through the day but unfortunately missed the tide on the French side and was forced to swim for a further six hours whole the tide changed. Eoin landed on the rocks in the pitch dark at Cape Gris Nez. He then swam back to the pilot boat for his return journey to Dover. He spent 30 seconds on French soil.

EoinÅ› time for the swim was 17 hours and 47 minutes.
