Kieran trains on his own in a 15 metre pool in Sligo. He has many swimming accomplishments including Lough Erne (17k), Lake Windermere (17K), Straits of Gibraltar (11 miles), Manhattan Island (28.5 miles), and Rottnest Channel Swim (13.5 miles) in Australia.
Swimmer's Report – English Channel
Direction: England to France
Kieran swam the English Channel on the 26th September 1994 in a time of 15 hours and 23 minutes.
This is unusually late in the season to swim the Channel. Kieran left Shakespeare Beach at 3.35am. He was swimming at about 2 miles an hour for the first few hours, averaging 60 strokes a minute. The water was choppy but became calm as dawn broke. At 10.35am, seven hours into the swim, Kieran was at the halfway point. As fatigue set in, Kieran's stroke rate dropped to 48 strokes per minute.
At 6.58pm, Kieran finally landed on the beach half a mile north of Cape Gris Nez.
