Well done today (Sun 19th Sept) to Gary Knox who swam from Rathlin to Ballycastle in aid of the RNLI but also in memory of his good friend Ciaran McGinn who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Gary set off from Oweydoo Point Rathlin at 0745 hours this morning and arrived at Ballycastle harbour some 2 hrs 57 mins and 33secs later!! The water temp was 11 degrees and the sea state was slight to moderate throughout with a few "White horses" rearing up towards the end. Those swimmers who participated in the Rathlin "Swim for Life" in 2008 will know just what Gary had to endure during his time in the water. Extremely strong tides and several eddies coupled with cold water and Lionsmane Jellyfish, the Rathlin sound is not for the faint hearted However Gary stayed strong throughout with a stroke rate not dropping below 50 strokes pm. Well done Mr Knox (Pics to follow)
