Billy has acted as observer on many crossing of the North Channel, or organised someone to be on call for any swim.

In later years he has always made a point of making his way down to Bangor to shake hands and personally congratulate or commiserate with any swimmer who came to cross the Irish Channel.

This short paragraph will never communicate the effort and personal cost he has made to help in many ways people from all over the world.
