ILDSA Swim Ratification Rules

The ILDSA has set out in its charter to act as a promoter for open water swimming in Ireland by ratifying and recording marathon and notable swims that occur on and around the Island of Ireland.

Our objective is to reward and recognise swimmers who are pioneers in open water swimming, whilst also capturing the rich history of swims in Ireland to inspire our future generations.

Ratification

The ILDSA will ratify Skins Solo swims of 10km or more, and Skins Relay swims of 20km or more.

Ratified swims will be promoted on ILDSA social media, and become part of Ireland Swim History recorded on the ILDSA website. They will receive formal certification and presentation, and will be eligible for consideration for specific categories of awards, at the ILDSA Annual Awards ceremony.

Recording

The ILDSA will record Solo swims of 10km or more, and Relay swims of 20km or more.

Approved swims will be logged onto the Ireland Swim History under the relevant category.

Criteria
Criteria
  • The swim does not have to be carried out using “channel rules”. In particular, this means that wetsuit swims – which cannot be ratified – can be recorded.

  • Completion of the swim must be attested by an independent observer.

Process
  • Optionally, notify the ILDSA Recorder of route of swim you are intending to take via email [email protected]

  • Download the relevant observer’s log form:

2023 ILDSA Observers Log – SOLO

2022 ILDSA Observers Log – RELAY (2023 form coming shortly)

  • During the swim, log all required information onto ILDSA observer’s log

  • After the swim, visit https://ratification.ildsa.info/initial-submission to upload the ratification documents and relevant evidence of swim as required

  • The recorder will review all documentation for the purpose of ratification of the swim

  • Once a swim is ratified, you will be notified and all follow-on actions will occur with regard to logging onto website and annual awards.

Process
  • If you wish to have a swim recorded on the ILDSA website but it is not eligible for ratification, please send the details by email to [email protected]

  • The recorder will review all documentation for the purpose of recording the swim

  • Once a swim is approved, you will be notified and all follow-on actions will occur with regard to logging onto website.
